HACKETTSTOWN — Thanks to the local police and public works departments, as well as a helping hose from a neighbor, five ducklings trapped in a storm drain were reunited with their mother early Tuesday morning.

Police were called to Water Street around 7 a.m. where the ducklings were reported trapped after crossing the street with their mother, who was nearby when police arrived on scene. Four of the five ducklings were able to be pulled from the drain, while the fifth wandered into the storm drain pipe.

Using water from the city's street sweeper and a nearby resident's garden hose, the last duckling was safely flushed out.

Police said none of the ducklings were injured during the rescue.

The five babies were then returned to their mother safe and sound.

Last week, a Woodbridge police officer rescued a baby deer that had fallen into a storm drain.
