PISCATAWAY — A man who was employed by a local youth sports organization and also served as an umpire and referee has been charged with possession of child pornography after, police say, an "undisclosed number" of images were found on his computer.

Lawrence Lapczynski, 47, who works as a referee for the Raritan Valley Soccer Officials Association, was charged with one count of possession of child pornography. In addition to his work as a soccer referee, he was also a freelance umpire and referee through Arbiter Sports, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey said.

Carey said the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information about the case to contact Detective Robert Wei of the Piscataway Police Department at 732-562-2370, or Detective George Stilwell of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office at 732-745-8675.
