A trespasser was struck by an Amtrak train and killed Wednesday along the Northeast Corridor in New Brunswick.

Train service along the Northeast Corridor between New York and New Jersey was halted for a time, as police responded and an investigation began.

"The train involved was number 653, on the Keystone route, according to Vernae Graham, an Amtrak spokeswoman. The incident happened at about 6 p.m. near the Jersey Avenue station," NJ Advance Media reported.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
