Trucks are backed up outside the port in Oakland, California this afternoon.

Thousands of anti-Wall Street protesters converged on the facility yesterday evening and have shut it down. TV footage shows about a dozen protesters manning a chain-link fence blocking a port entrance. The protesters say they plan to stay until at least 9 a.m., Pacific time.

The blockade was part of a day of protests in Oakland that ended in violence. Riot police arrested dozens of protesters who broke into a vacant building, shattered windows, sprayed graffiti and lit bonfires downtown. Police say the protesters also threw chunks of concrete, metal pipes and molotov cocktails.

At least four protesters were hospitalized with injuries. Police say several officers were also hurt, though none of them needed to be hospitalized.

Some protesters are voicing frustration at the violence. Monique Agnew says: "We go from having a peaceful movement to now just chaos."
