Making a Difference: NJNG’s Coastal Climate Initiative with The Nature Conservancy

New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) is taking action to protect the environment and combat climate change through their Coastal Climate Initiative. Collaborating with The Nature Conservancy in New Jersey, an esteemed environmental nonprofit, NJNG is focusing on restoring saltwater tidal wetlands in the Barnegat Bay. These marshes are essential ecosystems that not only play a critical role in reducing emissions but also act as natural barriers against climate impacts, safeguarding coastal communities in New Jersey.

Coastal marshes serve as "carbon sinks," actively removing carbon from the atmosphere and safely sequestering it in the ground. By restoring and preserving these marshes, NJNG and The Nature Conservancy are contributing to the state's emissions reduction targets while creating a natural defense against storm surge and protecting local residents and properties.

NJNG's commitment to supporting The Nature Conservancy's efforts started with an initial $25,000 donation earlier this year. Now, through the Coastal Climate Initiative, NJNG customers can actively participate in this crucial conservation work. By opting for a simple on-bill donation, customers directly contribute to the salt marsh restoration and preservation projects led by The Nature Conservancy in New Jersey. The best part? NJNG will match each customer donation dollar for dollar, up to a total of $50,000 annually. Every penny donated goes directly to The Nature Conservancy, ensuring maximum impact.
