Demetrius Diaz-Bridges has been jailed since his arrest in May 2008, first in North Carolina and then in New Jersey.

On Thursday he pleaded guilty to murdering Elizabeth O'Brien in her home in Jefferson Township in January 2008.

Diaz-Bridges was 19 at the time and lived near O'Brien and was friends with her two sons. The 49-year-old O'Brien's body was found bludgeoned to death in her house.

Earlier this year, New Jersey's Supreme Court ruled that a confession Diaz-Bridges made to investigators in 2008 could be used at trial.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi says his office spared no expense to bring justice for O'Brien's family.
