If Mitt Romney names Governor Chris Christie as his Vice Presidential nominee, New Jersey Democrats want to be ready to give their side of Christie's record as Governor.

The New Jersey GOP has passed along an email purportedly signed by Jackie Cornell-Bechelli, the  Obama campaign's New Jersey State Director, soliciting feedback to "share what you think Americans need to know about Governor Christie to hold him "accountable on the campaign trail."

"Most Americans don't know much about our governor," reads the email.  "If and when Romney selects him, those who know him best -- and that's us, New Jersey -- need to be able to share the truth about Chris Christie from the get-go. Share what you think Americans need to know about Governor Christie, and why a Romney-Christie administration would be a giant step back for middle-class families."

A message left at Obama's New Jersey campaign headquarters was not returned.

Romney is expected to announce the keynote speaker for the Republican national convention, which is widely believed to be Christie. Delivering that speech would take Christie out of the running to be Romney's Vice President nominee but would push Christie further onto the national political stage and onto a very early list of possible candidates for the 2016 Presidential race.

No announcements would likely happen until Romney's wife Ann returned from the Olympics in London reports the Star Ledger. A horse that she is a part owner of competed in the games.

Fiscal conservative U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin)  is being pushed by many on the right to be Romney's choice. Ryan is responsible for a budget plan to cut back government spending and such entitlement programs as Medicare and Medicaid.

EMAIL TO NJ OBAMA SUPPORTERS

What would you say if I told you Mitt Romney is choosing our own Governor Chris Christie for the VP slot on his GOP ticket?

It's time to start thinking about it.

Gov. Christie is on Romney's VP short list and has been for some time. This week his name crept back into the news, and with Romney expected to announce any day now, New Jerseyans have a job to do.

Most Americans don't know much about our governor. If and when Romney selects him, those who know him best -- and that's us, New Jersey -- need to be able to share the truth about Chris Christie from the get-go.

Share what you think Americans need to know about Governor Christie, and why a Romney-Christie administration would be a giant step back for middle-class families.

Your feedback will help hold Christie accountable on the campaign trail, if it should come to that.

As you know, there's no lack of material to work with here. Right now, it's our responsibility to make sure others know what they'd be getting into, too.
