The county prosecutor's office says officers used Narcan to revive fiver people in less than 48 hours this week. One was in Berkeley Township. Two were in Seaside Heights and Seaside Park. Two others were in Manchester and Lacey townships.

Police in Seaside Heights were the first in New Jersey to save a life under the pilot program.

Gov. Chris Christie signed a waiver allowing first responders to carry and administer the medication in emergency situations.

Narcan is the brand name for naloxone, which counteracts the effects of heroin and other opioid drugs.
