CAMDEN — Authorities believe they have arrested the man who walked into two New Jersey banks and gave the teller notes saying "gun in pocket, Money now or -bang-".

Bruce Wayne Higgins, 43, of Herndon, Virginia, has been charged with two counts of bank robbery, Acting U.S. Attorney William E. Fitzpatrick announced Wednesday.

The first charge stems from the robbery of a TD Bank in Ocean City in December of last year. After the teller gave the suspect money he fled on foot. At that time a surveillance video image was sent to other law enforcement agencies.

The following day, Fitzpatrick said a man matching Higgins' description went to another TD Bank branch in Atlantic City where he was recognized by an employee who had seen the bulletin. The employee proceeded to set off the "hold-up" alarm before Higgins left the scene in a cab.

Witnesses provided police the cab's number and the direction it was heading, which led authorities to a Wells Fargo branch in the city where he was giving the teller a similar note. Fitzpatrick said the suspect had taken the money and was trying to get away before he was arrested by police.

The two bank robbery charges each carry a maximum of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 or twice the gross gain or loss from the robbery.
