The investigation into a an 85-year-old man fatally hit by a tractor trailer Monday morning on Route 287 closed several lanes in Franklin Township in Somerset County.

State Police spokesman Trooper Lawrence Peele said Miroslav Bodnar of Somerset was hit around 10:20 a.m. near Exit 12 for Weston Canal Road in Franklin Township.  The circumstances leading to the hit were not known according to Peale, who did not identify the driver. A car was parked along the side of the road at the accident scene.

The investigation created a multi-mile traffic backup into at least Piscataway as of 1:55 p.m. along with a southbound rubbernecking delay. All the lanes were reopened around 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.
