Man critically injured when tire explodes in Monmouth Beach

A 56-year-old Monmouth Beach man was critically injured Saturday when a tire explored as he filled it with air, NJ.com reports.

Officers responded to an explosion Saturday afternoon and found the man with a head injury, the report said. Police determined the man was using a compressor to inflate a tire when the tire exploded, causing the metal rim to also explode apart, according to the report.

"The patient remains in critical condition at (Jersey Shore Medical Center," police wrote on Facebook Sunday. "Thank you to everyone for their concern. Please keep the patient in your thoughts and prayers."
