Cleanup and power restoration continued in Cape May County Wednesday morning after powerful thunderstorms passed through, bringing hail and 80 mph wind gusts.

The National Weather service headed to the area Wednesday morning as well, trying to determine whether a tornado had hit the area.

Just over 11,000 Atlantic City Electric customers in Cape May County were still without power, mostly in Lower Township and Middle Township as of 10:30 a.m., according to the utility's outage map. The National Weather Service reported two utility poles snapped in half on the East Delaware Parkway.

The utility in a statement said its crews worked all night on restoration after 36,000 customers were left in the dark by the storms.

"Atlantic City Electric’s system in Cape May County was heavily damaged by high winds that brought down wires and damaged utility poles and transformers," the utility wrote in a statement.

"There was a measured 85 mph gust off the Delaware coast last night. Eighty mph still the highest in NJ in Cape May around 3:35 Tuesday afternoon. There was hail the size of half-dollars around Barnegat and just over an inch of rain that fell in some areas," meteorologist Dan Zarrow said.

While the region had been under a tornado warning, and some social media used said they believed they may have seen a tornado, there had not been a confirmed tornado report by early Wednesday morning.

New Jersey 101.5 sister station WOBM in Toms River captured this time lapse video of the storm gathering in its area — a fierce sight, though Ocean County was spared the worst of the weather.

North Wildwood Police on their Facebook page said part of the roof of the Florentine Motel at 19th and Surf Avenues came off, and the "Welcome to North Wildwood" sign was blown over. New Jersey Fast Traffic's Jill Myra said a tree fell over on Route 9 at Route 47 in Rio Grande closing the road for much of Tuesday afternoon.

CBS Philly tweeted that the entire roof of the Wildwood Public Works building was blown off.

"We also had one duplex house under construction that collapsed," North Wildwood Mayor Patrick Rosenello told New Jersey 101.5, who said there were no injuries. "All public roads, beaches and the boardwalk are cleaned up and it looks like a beautiful day at the shore."
