This time of year is usually the quiet period at the State House, but there is much anticipation about a slew of bills sitting on Gov. Chris Christie's desk.

While Christie has taken action on two dozen bills so far this summer, 39 more await his decision.

Among the most notables are measures that would ban smoking at public parks and beaches, and end permanent alimony.

The governor has until September 8 to take action on these bills.

Meanwhile, Christie is once again out of New Jersey today. But, this trip is not one to raise money or raise his national profile.

He and First Lady Mary Pat are in South Bend, Indiana to drop their daughter, Sarah, off to college. She will attend the University of Notre Dame this fall.
