A Gloucester Township police officer has been arrested – for illegal possession of prescription drugs.

Officer Tom Eden Junior was taken into custody without incident outside a local motel after he purchased 5 Percocet pills and two Oxycotin placebo pills from a confidential police informant.

During a news conference this afternoon Gloucester Township Police Chief Harry Earle said Eden – who did not resist arrest – faces charges of Possession of a controlled dangerous substance, Possession with intent to distribute and possession of weapon during a controlled dangerous substance offense.

The Chief also said Eden has been suspended without pay, and faces dismissal from the force.

Yesterday’s arrest came following an anonymous tip from someone in the community.

The investigation is continuing.
