A couple of weeks ago I posted the best times to purchase fresh grown Jersey fruits and vegetables.

This week, compliments of the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, I'll relay some information to you about New Jersey's agriculture industry.

Did you know that agriculture is New Jersey's third largest industry?  As a matter of fact New Jersey is a national top ten producer of fruits and vegetables.  Any wonder our nickname is "The Garden State."

I'm sure you have noticed the "Jersey Fresh" promotions in your supermarket and on the media.

Aside from being an advertising and promotional campaign, Jersey Fresh is also a quality grading system.

Since the program started in 1984, it has informed consumers about New Jersey's crops and has enhanced consumer awareness about our bounty of fresh grown crops.

For Garden State residents it's a win win situation.  When we buy locally grown crops it's a huge boost for New Jersey's economy, plus, you can't ,beat the taste and freshness of New Jersey's fruits and veggies.

Oh, and by the way, Jersey Fresh products aren't limited to fruits and vegetables.

The Jersey Fresh brand includes plants, trees, shrubs, cut flowers, even Christmas trees and firewood.

Eat up and enjoy!
