I-287 incident creates traffic problems
The investigation of a police chase created traffic nightmares for central New Jersey commuters.
Interstate 287 was closed southbound just past exit #26 for Mt. Airy Road to investigate an accident that involves at least three cars including a State Police cruiser and a Bernardsville Police cruiser, according to CBS New York.. New Jersey Fast Traffic reports a chase led to the incident which happened around 2:30 p.m.
The southbound side partially reopened around 5:30 p.m.
All northbound lanes have been reopened; southbound lanes are backed up to #30 for North Maple Avenue.
ABC 7 reports police began the pursuit of a stolen a black Jeep Grand Cherokee on I-78 in Newark that continued west onto I-287 when the driver lost control, hitting a silver minivan and a police car. One of the Jeep's 3 occupants was a pregnant woman.
