“I am so excited to be here right now. I am also so excited to be at home six hours from now, watching this on TV," Colbert said in his opening monologue.

Opening his first broadcast with a tribute to predecessor David Letterman and a conversation with Jimmy Fallon, the former host of "The Colbert Report" joked about several recent headlines including the Ashley Madison scandal.

“With this show – as many people have asked – this show, I begin the search for the ‘real’ Stephen Colbert. I just hope I don’t find him on Ashley Madison.”

Colbert was joined by actor George Clooney as well as Jeb Bush, a GOP presidential contender. The guest list for the remainder of Colbert's first week includes not only people from the entertainment business, but businessmen and politicians as well. Vice President Joe Biden will visit Thursday and the CEOs of Tesla Motors and Uber also will make appearances. Comic Amy Schumer, actress Scarlett Johansson and author Stephen King also are on the schedule.
