Here’s why Easter Bunny got in a knock-down brawl at Newport mall (VIDEO)
The fight caught on video involving the Easter Bunny at the Newport Centre Mall in Jersey City began with ugly words from the father of a toddler who slipped off the bunny's lap on Sunday, authorities said.
In a statement, Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrilli said the girl's father began physically and verbally attacking the 22-year-old man wearing the bunny suit around 5 p.m., after his daughter's picture was taken with the costumed character.
A fight ensued between the father and the man playing the Easter Bunny, with both being taken to the JCMC-Barnabas Health for minor injuries.
A video of the incident shows the man — wearing his bunny gloves and a blue jacket — coming after the father and then walking off. He can be seen coming back toward the father, removing his furry gloves and throwing a punch before being held down by several other men.
A woman can be seen kicking the costumed man as he unsuccessfully struggles to get up.
The identities of the men have not been disclosed.
Morrill said no charges have been filed as police continue their investigation and speak with witnesses.
