STATEN ISLAND - The Goethals Bridge will be closed tonight heading back to New Jersey.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said it must make emergency repairs to two drainage catch basins on the Staten Island side of the 88-year-old bridge on the New Jersey-bound lanes.

The repairs will start at 10 p.m. and is scheduled to be complete by Friday morning at 5 a.m.

"This closure will have a big impact if you're trying to get between Staten Island and New Jersye. However, because of this construction, the Bayonne Bridge will be available as the normal work on that bridge will be suspended for the night," New Jersey Fast Traffic's Bob Williams said, adding that the Outerbridge Crossing will also remain open.
