How many boardwalks can you do in New Jersey in one week? So far, we’ve done four in five days.

It all started Saturday night when my wife and I went to see Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Darlene Love at the Paramount Theater in Asbury Park with the Lamba and the Hubcaps. What an incredible show and what an incredible voice Darlene has! She rolled through her Phil Spector classics as well as some songs from her new album, “Introducing Darlene Love,” which was written by Elvis Costello and Bruce Springsteen.

What made the show even more memorable was when I ran into Darlene afterward at McLoone's and got a selfie with her!

Sunday, we took the boys to Jenkinson’s in Point Pleasant, where they went on several rides including the Flitzer and then sang for Glenn Stuart of the Springsteen tribute B Street Band. They’re looking forward to playing with him one day.

Then we headed south. If you were looking for a great week to go to the shore, this was the week to go since it was not very crowded at all. We stayed in Sea Isle City, which was practically barren, hit the beach and arcade as well as Uncle Bill’s Pancake House and Shoobies, which is a really cool diner decorated with rock memorabilia.

Monday night it was Ocean City. We hit the boardwalk, kids rode several rides, then it was Prep’s Pizza (established 1965) — terrific, especially the way the dough was made! We then got tee shirts at Jilly’s, which also got us a free bucket of fries.

Tuesday night is was the Wildwood boardwalk and Morey’s Amusement Pier, along with several deep fried items like Snickers, Nutter Butter, and Twix. We have a motto in the Trevelise household: "If you fry it, we will eat it."

I know it’s unhealthy but “Hey, we’re on vacation!”

We ate seriously Wednesday night when we hit The Pub in Pensauken, where they cook the steaks over a charcoal grill. Delicious! Believe it or not, my sons requested that we go there as part of our vacation because the food was so good!

Now we buckle in and get ready for the rain that we’re supposed to be having this weekend. If not, well there’s always Seaside Heights!
