Police responded to a police-involved shooting domestic dispute in Wanaque early Tuesday morning.

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said a "civilian" was injured in the incident  but would not provide other details about the shooting that occurred in the Rainbow Lake section of the Passaic County community around 2 a.m..

The scene had been secured according to Valdes.

NorthJersey.com reported that a woman named April who answered the door at the home where the incident took place said an officer shot a man in his 20s who threatened her. April said the man had been staying with her as he made repairs to her home, according to the report.

She told NorthJersey.com it was his first outburst during his time working for her, and the incident started inside but moved outside. She said the officer was "in his right" to fire

"He saved us and he saved himself,” she told the newspaper, adding that he had a “big knife” with which he approached police.
