Gov. Chris Christie and Portugal's ambassador to the United States concluded a private discussion Friday without saying whether they discussed two recent high-profile cases involving fugitives with ties to both Portugal and New Jersey.

Christie met with Ambassador Nuno Brito in a Portuguese restaurant in Newark.

Nuno says they discussed ways to forge closer business, social and economic ties between New Jersey and Portugal.

The meeting comes as U.S. officials are appealing the refusal of Portugal's Supreme Court to extradite fugitive George Wright to New Jersey to serve the rest of his 15- to 30-year sentence for the 1962 killing of a New Jersey gas station attendant.

Nuno says he could not comment on the case, or confirm whether it was discussed.
