Democratic state Sen. Bob Gordon retained his seat in Bergen County after staving off a tough challenge from a Chris Christie-backed Republican.

Gordon was given a run for his 38th District seat by John Driscoll Jr.

Driscoll is chairman of the county Freeholder Board. He was swept into county office two years ago on the governor's coattails.

Assemblywoman Connie Wagner, a Democrat, also retained her seat. The second spot was too close to call Tuesday night.

Christie pinned some of his modest hopes for Tuesday's midterm elections on Driscoll.

Gordon, a full-time lawmaker and part-time solar energy developer, has been in the Legislature since 2004. The 61-year-old is married to a Republican who has raised money for Christie.
