New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, appearing with fellow Republican Linda McMahon in her campaign for U.S. Senate in Connecticut, slammed her opponent, Democratic Congressman Chris Murphy, as so partisan "he might as well be Nancy Pelosi's butler."

In his swipe at the top House Democrat, Christie portrayed McMahon, a former wrestling executive, as someone who can work across party lines. They campaigned Monday in Stamford.

McMahon is in a close race against Murphy. They are vying for the seat held by the retiring Sen. Joe Lieberman, an independent.

Murphy has pointed to his work on the congressional Center Aisle Caucus that seeks to promote civility. He said Republicans are campaigning for McMahon because they want her to fight President Obama over the next four years if he's re-elected. Murphy rejected arguments that she's an independent thinker.
