Booker told an audience at the Democratic National Convention "the world wouldn't know who Christie is" if more Democrats had turned out in 2009.

At his own news conference later in Trenton, Christie brushed off the criticism, but took aim at his potential rival.

His comment: "I have a great personal relationship and professional relationship with Cory Booker. ... I'm confident that we'll continue to work very well together after he gets home so we can deal with the really severe financial difficulties that are going on in Newark that we're running out of time to deal with."

Booker is reportedly considering challenging Christie in 2013.
