Celebrate a NJ hero: John Basilone Memorial Parade
This coming weekend, September 20th and 21st, Raritan Borough will be celebrating the memory of a timeless NJ hero, John Basilone.
The annual John Basilone Memorial Parade will be held this weekend with events going on in Raritan Borough throughout the weekend. including a concert, and then the weekend will culminate with the parade on Sunday, September 21st.
John Basilone is the only enlisted Marine to have been awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross. Basilone returned to war after receiving the Medal of Honor and died in the battle.
Below is a schedule of events going on to celebrate the heroism and memory of New Jersey native John Basilone.
Saturday Sept. 20th:
Concert with the Summerswing Orchestra at Raritan Valley Community College at 7pm.
Sunday September 21st:
- Church service at St. Ann's Church at 10a.m.
- The Basilone Museum will be open from 10 - 1pm at the Raritan Library
- The Basilone Parade will take place on Somerset Street in Raritan starting at 1pm. The staging area will be at the Raritan Train Station. Click here for directions.
- Post-parade ceremony will take place at the end of the parade at the Basilone statue on Somerset street.
