A car drove into the Pearl Vision building on Route 1 in Woodbridge early Sunday taking down wires and utility poles and closing down the road.

Route 1 was reopened  in both directions between Woodbridge Centre Road and Green Street around 1 p.m.

"We're waiting for the utility companies to  restore power and open up the roads," Lt. Pucci of the Woodbridge Police Department said, adding that several companies have wires down affected by the crash and could be "an extended period of time" before the road is reopened.

Pucci said the Pearl Vision building, a small building on the northbound side on Franklin Street, took damage but is still standing.

New Jersey Fast Traffic's Bob Williams said Route 9 is the best way to avoid the closure. "You can get to Green Street off Route 9 just before the road merges with Route 1," Williams said.
