A private dive team discovered the body Friday afternoon near buoy No. 14 off Middletown, according to Capt. Stephen Jones with the New Jersey State Police. The dive team was hired by the family of Tom Anderson, the captain of the El Jefe, a 40-foot fishing trawler.

The Belford Seafood Co-op said Anderson was the only person on board when the boat sank. Anderson had recently joined the co-op. He has two children and two grandchildren.

Authorities have yet to release the name of the person recovered.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
