The Jersey Journal reports that former Deputy Chief Peter Nalbach will receive more than a half-million dollars for 754 unused days, the biggest payout of the group.

In all, the city says it is paying the four nearly $1.3 million for unused vacation, sick, comp and other days.

Retired Chief Tom Comey is getting over $170,000 for 215 days. Two other ex-deputies are getting over a quarter-million dollars each.

Mayor-elect Steve Fulop has questioned how so many days could go unused. The outgoing chief called the criticism disappointing.

Final salaries are used to calculate compensation for unused days other than sick time.
