In recent years Amazon.com has grown its footprint in New Jersey. An announcement from the company said that it is expected to grow even more in the not so distant future.

With more than 11,000 employees in seven sites, Amazon announced on Thursday that more than 2,500 more people will be hired in New Jersey over the next 18 months.

In addition to the warehouses, a report on NJ.com said the company is also planning to bring a bookstore to the Garden State Plaza later this year. The New Jersey store will join stores already opened in Illinois, Massachusetts, and New York City.

Like the other states, the plan for New Jersey is to add more fulfillment centers, which the company estimates will bring 2,500 full-time jobs. The plan also aims to help increase the number of people who use the company's Marketplace and Amazon Flex to help in their own individual endeavors.

"Innovation is one of our guiding principles at Amazon, and it's created hundreds of thousands of American jobs," said Amazon CEO and founder Jeff Bezos. "These jobs are not just in our Seattle headquarters or in Silicon Valley — they're in our customer service network, fulfillment centers and other facilities in our local communities throughout the country.

The new jobs in New Jersey are just a fraction of the more than 100,000 new hires the company plans over the next year and half. Other jobs will be added in Washington State, Texas, California, Illinois, Kentucky, and Florida.
