An Atlantic City official has been convicted of selling heroin in the city building he was overseeing.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that Akbar Malik Salaam of Egg Harbor Township, a public works supervisor, faces up to 15 years after an Atlantic County jury found him guilty of official misconduct and drug distribution charges.

Prosecutors say the 57-year-old Salaam was selling heroin from the All Wars Memorial building Salaam's criminal history dates to at least 1984, when he sold nearly a half-gram of heroin to an undercover officer.
