3 firefighters injured while battling Atlantic City blaze

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) -- Three firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling a blaze at a vacant rowhome in Atlantic City.

The fire at the two-story building was reported around 11:30 p.m. Saturday and was brought under control about two hours later.

Fire Chief Dennis Brooks told The Press of Atlantic City that the fire began in the rear of the lower level, then spread to the second floor and the wall it shares with the home next door. That building was also vacant, and firefighters cut observation holes into the shared wall to help stop the fire from spreading.

Brooks said a nail punctured one firefighter's knee, while another suffered an ankle injury. The third firefighter hurt his hip and ankle in a fall.

All three were treated at a hospital and released.
