LAKEWOOD — A family in Ocean County is mourning the loss of a 2-year-old child that died in what looks like a tragic accident at the hands of a family member.

According to a report in the Asbury Park Press, Lakewood police said the boy's aunt ran him over while backing up her car in the Woodlake Manor Complex.  Lt. Gregory Staffordsmith told the paper that the aunt didn't know the boy followed her outside and didn't see him as she backed her car up.

The boy suffered extensive head injuries and died at a local hospital, according to the Asbury Park Press.

The incident remains under investigation, according to the report, and no charges have been filed.
