2 NJ men charged with illegally disposing human corpse
Two Bound Brook men were arrested and charged with illegally disposing a human corpse in a wooded section of Piscataway, the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office said Thursday.
Authorities say charges against Scott Maynor, 33, and Edward Guy, 35, were filed by police after the remains of 27-year-old Nicholas Phelan of Edison were found near River Road.
In a press release Thursday, the prosecutor's office said Phelan's body was found on Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. by a passerby. During the course of an investigation, investigators determined that Phelan and the two suspects were in Bound Brook when the victim died. Police believe the two men then moved Phelan's body to the wooded area where it was discovered.
Police have not yet determined how Phelan died. The results of toxicology tests are still pending, the prosecutor's office stated. Authorities also did not say what the men were doing or exactly where they were when Phelan passed away.
The investigation is ongoing by Detective Wayne Canastra of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and Detective Robert Rose and Detective Joseph Reilly, both of the Piscataway Police Department, as well as the Bound Brook Police Department. Authorities are asking anyone with additional information to call Detective Canastra at 732-745-3809, or Detectives Rose and Reilly at 732-562-2366.
