Three people were killed in two separate head-on car crashes across the state on Friday.

In Jackson, a passenger was killed in a head-on car crash that also injured four others.

Hours earlier in Hamilton in Atlantic County, two women died after one of their cars lost control and crashed into the other.

The Jackson crash happened before 6:41 p.m. when a 1993 Chevy 1500 pickup truck, which had been traveling north on South Hope Chapel Road, collided with a 2004 Chrysler Town and Country minivan, which police believe was turning left onto Ridgeway Boulevard.

The front-seat passenger of the minivan had to be extricated by firefighters. The woman died after being flown to a hospital.

The minivan's driver, a 56-year-old Howell man, was flown to a hospital with serious injuries, while a backseat passenger was taken by ambulance and treated for moderate injuries.

The 31-year-old driver of the pickup was partially ejected and was flown to a hospital with serious injuries. His 14-year-old female passenger was hospitalized with moderate injuries, police said.

Jackson police on Saturday morning did not identify any of the victims or give an age for the passenger who died.

"There is no indication at this time that alcohol or drugs had been a contributing factor," police said Saturday as investigators continued their work.

The dark intersection has no traffic light or street lamps. The speed limit is 50 mph.

Jackson police ask witnesses to call 732-928-1111 or 732-929-2027.

Car lost control

In Atlantic County, authorities say the crash on Bears Head Road in Hamilton occurred around 4:20 p.m. Friday.

Rescue crews extricated the women from their vehicles, but both were pronounced dead a short time later.

Police say a 2007 Toyota Corolla was going west on County Route 552 when it crossed the center line, swiped a 1998 BMW M3 heading east and then crashed head on into a 2011 Kia Sorrento that had also been heading west.

The driver of the Corolla, Allison Salerno, 35, of Vineland, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Sorrento, Providence Colon, 48, of Pleasantville, died at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Atlantic City.

Salerno had been wearing a seatbelt but Colon had not, police said.

The driver of the BMW, Barry Lubin, 51, of Vineland, was not injured.

A stretch of the roadway was shut down for several hours while authorities investigated the crash. But no major travel delays were reported.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
