Middlesex County prosecutors say 32-year-old Amarlis Calderon was walking on Randolph Avenue in Woodbridge when 33-year-old Pablo Caamano drove by and stopped to pick her up. The stabbing then occurred and Calderon got in the vehicle.

The pair then headed toward Interchange 12 on the New Jersey Turnpike but pulled over to the side of the road before entering the highway. Caamano was pronounced dead there a short time later.

Prosecutors say the two Bayonne residents knew each other, but did not provide further details. They also didn't disclose a motive for the stabbing.

Besides the murder count, Calderon is also charged with hindering, tampering with evidence and a weapons offense. It's not known if she has a lawyer.
