New Jersey Natural Gas has a story that will help teach students in kindergarten through second grade some basic concepts about energy efficiency.

They just need someone to bring it to life.

That's why they are hosting the Don't Hog Energy! Video Contest. It's open to New Jersey residents ages 18 and older who want to make a short, animated video at least four minutes long.

It must be based on the story called “The Efficient Fable of the Big Bad Energy Hog,” which NJNG provides as part of the contest. In this tale, three little wolves battle the Energy Hog to take small steps every day to save energy.

Entries can be stop motion, a cartoon, a flipbook, or any type of motion graphic. The video will be judged on:

  • 25% Content (Age appropriate/educational)
  • 25% Interpretation (Accurately follows the story)
  • 25% Creativity
  • 25% Overall presentation (e.g., neatness, clarity, conciseness)

The winning video will receive $10,000 and will be used in school presentations teaching children about energy conservation and protecting the environment.

Entries must be received by Nov. 15, 2024. Click here to learn more and get started.
