WARREN TOWNSHIP — A trucker was killed on Route 78 when he was hit by another tractor trailer while standing outside his truck on Monday afternoon.

James Beltran, 57, of Clifton, pulled his Peterbilt tractor-trailer over to the right shoulder on the eastbound side near Exit 36 for King George Road just after 5 p.m, according to State Police Trooper Alejandro Goez.

He was outside the truck on the driver's side when a Freightliner tractor-trailer went into the right shoulder, hitting the Peterbilt and Beltran.

Goez said Beltran was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Freightliner, Deyvis Casas, 39, of Union City, was not injured. Goez said no charges have been filed and incident remains under investigation.

The initial response to the crash closed the eastbound lanes creating long delays.
