New Jersey lawmakers may soon vote on a compromise measure that would bar anyone under 17 from using indoor tanning beds.

Assemblyman Ralph Caputo said Wednesday that he believes a compromise has been reached with Senate lawmakers. The measure could be voted on Thursday.

Caputo, the measure's primary sponsor, wants to ban indoor tanning in New Jersey for those under 18.

The Assembly approved that bill last month. But a Senate committee last week surprised supporters when it recommended a ban for anyone under 16, increased fines and for parents to be present for tanning session purchases.

The state now bars anyone under 14 from using tanning beds.

Written parental consent is needed for those 14 to 17.
