Legacy Insurance Restoration Specialists, Inc. (IRS), now First Onsite Property Restoration, was one of the key disaster restoration companies providing service to the people and businesses slammed by Hurricane Sandy. In the Autumn of 2012, Sandy dropped over 12” of rain with recorded wind speeds of over 80 miles per hour and caused storm surges over eight feet in height. Dubbed “Superstorm Sandy”, the hurricane was one of the largest and strongest to hit the US East Coast, Caribbean Islands, and Canada.

First Onsite performed restoration work for many municipalities, school systems, healthcare facilities, and residential communities. Hardest hit was New Jersey’s coastal areas by extreme flooding and wind damage, but inland areas also suffered due to the large volumes of wind-driven rain. Conditions were made even more complicated by extensive power failures.

Preparations had been well underway by the time Sandy made landfall. First Onsite had been following Superstorm Sandy’s progress up the coastline and knew that New Jersey would be hit hard.  Emergency vehicles were readied with supplies and drying equipment, fueled up, and ready to go.  Then the emergency calls started coming in.  Impeded by the lack of power, flooded roadways, and downed trees, crews worked diligently to get help to those in dire need.

Following the storm, First Onsite became a donor for the “Restore the Shore” project and hosted a fundraiser party at Martell’s Tiki Bar the next summer.

Some may have moved on months later, but for some it took years. While we have resumed our lives, we will never forget the devastation of Superstorm Sandy.

Today, First Onsite is ready to help you with emergencies both small and large with Armor COVID-19 decontamination, water and flood damage restoration, catastrophic event restoration, fire and smoke damage restoration, mold and environmental remediation, and emergency response planning.
