Gov. Chris Christie has not made an endorsement in the Republican primary for a special U.S. Senate election. But other GOP officials are starting to line up behind former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan.

Lonegan announced on Tuesday his second endorsement from a member of Congress. This time it's Rep. Scott Garrett. He's also been endorsed by Rep. Leonard Lance and several local officials.

The former director of the New Jersey arm of Americans for Prosperity is running in the Republican primary against Alieta Eck. The Piscataway physician has some tea party backing.

The winner of the Aug. 13 primary will face off in an Oct. 16 election with one of four Democrats vying to complete the term of Sen. Frank Lautenberg. Lautenberg died earlier this month at 89.
