Standoff at Ocean City Home Ends in Man’s Death

Authorities say an armed man who they initially believed was holed up inside a southern New Jersey home had actually killed himself several hours before police arrived.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that Ocean City police went to the home late Tuesday morning to check on the man's welfare after receiving a call from one of his relatives who lives in another state. The relative said she had received a suicide note in the mail.

Officers saw the man, whose name was not disclosed, in a back bedroom, and it appeared that he had a gun pointed at his chest.

Neighboring homes were then evacuated while officials tried to contact the man, but they soon learned he was dead after a robot was sent into the two-story home.
