Washington Township High School in Gloucester County sent home letters to family of students set to graduate later this month. The letters explained that a dress code for people attending graduation will be so strictly enforced that people will be thrown out who violate it. The graduation, set for June 23rd, is outdoors. Anyone wearing shorts will be turned away. Anyone wearing any kind of shirt without a collar will be turned away. Some are praising the strict enforcement, others are livid. In fact a 25 year school teacher from that district wrote a letter to the editor of the South Jersey Times bashing the school board and administrators for what he called an absurd policy and encouraged everyone attending the graduation ceremony to wear shorts and tank tops in protest.

I find it hard to believe that a significant number of people would dress inappropriately to something like a child's graduation. I'm sure there are always a very few, but let's face it, doesn't this just make everyone else look even more appropriate and embarrass only themselves? I certainly doubt it's in high enough numbers to sully the entire graduation.
