Passaic County may halt its plan to sell $30 million in bonds to put solar panels on public buildings around the county. The hope was the county would generate revenue through the ambitious eco-project.

But new projections show the effort could cost $18 million more than it brings in.

The change is largely because the cost has dropped for certificates utilities buy instead of generating their own green energy.

Last month's deadline for contractors to do the work passed without any bids being submitted.

County officials tell The Record newspaper they'll look again for contractors but that the parameters of the project could change.
