President Barack Obama says he will delay his Hawaiian vacation and stay in Washington "as long as it takes" to win an extension of the payroll tax cut and jobless benefits for the long-term unemployed.

Earlier, House Speaker John Boehner  said he's confident that Republicans are ready to move ahead with the extension -- but Republicans also want a provision that would assure construction of an oil pipeline from Canada to Texas. And Obama has said he'll veto that.

Obama also delayed his trip to Hawaii last year so Congress could finish work on a series of issues.
