One New Jersey township is going hi-tech.

Members of the township council in Ewing have been given Apple iPads to use for official business.

The Star-Ledger of Newark reports the township has bought about $7,000 worth of iPads for its members to access documents that were once printed out.

They can also access files and documents using special software. Township officials say it's cheaper than the cost of giving each person a laptop computer.

Council President Kathleen Wollert tells the newspaper it's part of the town's plan to go paperless.

In addition to council members, Ewing's mayor and some administrators have been issued iPads.
