NJ Man Seriously Injured by Runaway Tire

A motorist who stopped to assist a relative stranded on a central New Jersey roadway was hospitalized after a tire came off a passing pickup truck and knocked him over a guardrail

ty-three-year-old Paul Tillman of West Orange was in serious condition Tuesday at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, one day after he was injured in the area of Route 18 South in Wall.

The Asbury Park Press reports Tillman was standing on the side of the road when he was struck around 4p.m. Monday. He sustained a fractured left leg and a broken left arm.

It wasn't clear what caused the tire to come off the pickup truck. No charges have been filed, but the accident remains under investigation.
