But Federal Election Commission reports filed Thursday show she still lags far behind the first-term incumbent in total cash.

Adler raised $98,993 and spent $85,481 from April 1 to May 16, while Runyan raised $73,583 and spent $50,642 during that same period.

But the Republican has raised $1.16 million so far this election cycle, compared to Adler's $409,920. Runyan ended the reporting period with $758,160 on hand, compared to Adler's $304,186.

Adler is challenging Runyan, a first-term incumbent, in New Jersey's 3rd Congressional District. She's the wife of the late John Adler, who represented the district from 2009-2011.

Runyan is a former professional football player.
