There's a battle brewing in northwestern New Jersey over the location of a natural gas pipeline that involves the federal government, an energy company and an 86-year-old resident whose property is in the path of the pipeline.

George Feighner, of Montague, says the pipeline could be laid next to an existing line from the 1950s that runs a few miles from his property.

But Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. says it can't follow that route because it goes through a half-mile of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Instead, it plans to run the pipeline several miles around the park and back through Feigner's property and connect with the existing line farther east.

The National Park Service says that it opposes a new pipeline on its property.
