PATERSON — Paterson authorities say a man was shot in the head on a city street, the latest incident in a wave of violence that has rocked the city in recent weeks.

Police responding to an alert sent through the city's gunfire detection system found the 37-year-old victim late Saturday night in the area of 12th Avenue and East 22nd Street. He remained hospitalized Sunday in stable condition, but further details on his injuries were not disclosed.

A motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

Authorities did not release further details on the shooting, including what type of weapon was used.

There have been 56 reported shootings in Paterson this year, including 14 that occurred in August. Eleven people have been killed overall and 53 have been wounded.
